Kara was born in Aberdeen in 1980 and lived in Dunfermline until moving to study her degree in Graphic Fine Art, at the University of East London, which is where her interest in printmaking and illustration began. Currently living in Wales, Kara works as a printmaking tutor for Swansea Print Workshop and Swansea Council. She exhibits her work regularly in Wales; this is only the second time she has shown in her native Scotland. Animals feature heavily in her work and she tries to show their very individual personalities and histories. Much of Kara’s recent work has been made through the medium of the Collagraph. A Printmaking technique–which involves printing from a collage, this can produce many atmospheric prints and enables the plates to be cut, shaped and manipulated to give specific effects when printed by hand.
